Frequently Asked Questions

What is the timeline for the RIE Industry Day Open Innovation Call 2019 (“Event”)?

The portal will be open for potential Solvers to submit solutions till 30 June 2019, 2359 hours Singapore time. Following that, Problem Owners will review the submissions and decide on the number of Solvers that meet their needs. Shortlisted Solvers will receive an invitation for a face-to-face meeting with the Problem Owner during RIE Industry Day 2019 (23 July 2019, 4.00pm – 6.00pm). The invitation email will be sent out by 15 July 2019.

The Organiser reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, modify or suspend the Event or any part thereof at any time, re-schedule the dates or extend the Event period.

Who can submit a solution?

The Event is open to global and Singapore-based research providers, students, or companies (start-ups, SMEs or larger companies).

We recommend that you consider the Technology Readiness Level that Problem Owners are seeking for when submitting solutions, as well as whether there is any requirement for selected applicants to have a physical presence in Singapore.

Global applicants must be prepared to bear any travel cost, be it for the face-to-face meeting on RIE Industry Day 2019, or for subsequent follow-up meetings. Subject to the approval of the Problem Owner, a teleconference meeting can be set up between the Problem Owner and shortlisted Solver for the first meeting.

Can I submit solutions for more than one problem statement?

Yes. If you or your organisation has solutions to more than one problem statement, we welcome you to submit your applications to different problem statements.

Will I retain my Intellectual Property Rights?

IP ownership can be negotiated separately with the Problem Owner after you or your organisation’s solution has been selected. Some of the Problem Owners have also indicated their preferred IP arrangement under the respective problem statement page.

Any IP agreements and arrangements are between the Problem Owner and the Solver, and the Organiser is neither party to these arrangements nor responsible for the same.

What happens after RIE Industry Day 2019?

If the Problem Owner decides to select your or your organisation’s solution, the Problem Owner will reach out directly to discuss terms of the collaboration.

The Organiser does not provide funding for any projects. However, where suitable, we would recommend available funding schemes.

Are travel expenses provided?

No, solution providers are expected to cover their own travel expenses.

Will there be prizes awarded to selected solution providers?

No, selected solution providers will get the opportunity to co-innovate and test-bed their solutions with Problem Owners.
